Your Guide to Fall and Winter 2008 Portland Events

Portland is an amazing city with plenty of unique places to attend area events or host a special event of your own. Like most cities, Portland offers a wide variety of events to satisfy nearly any interest.

While you’re in Portland, check out some of these great events:

Hansel and Gretel

This performance is based on the original fairy tale that everyone is familiar with, originally written by the Brothers Grimm. Hansel and Gretel is being performed at the Northwest Children’s theater during October and November in 2008.

Inflatable Kingdom

One of the most unique places in Portland for your family to visit is the Inflatable Kingdom. The Inflatable Kingdom is open all year round, and is the perfect place for your event. Whether it’s a birthday party or celebration of any sort, the Inflatable Kingdom is the place to be!

Moneyville

Housed at OMSI, Moneyville explores the entire world of money. It looks at everything from the history of money to economics. In addition to looking at money, it uses money as a tool to help visitors understand economics, as well as build their math skills. Visitors can learn how the stock market works, how money is manufactured, and even a little bit of science and math along the way. Moneyvill is at OMSI from November through January.

Portland Saturday Market

The Portland Saturday Market holds the distinction of being the largest arts and crafts market in the U.S. that is in continuous operation. The Portland Saturday Market takes place on the weekends most of the year. From the beginning of March through Christmas time, you can visit the Portland Saturday Market. There are more than 350 booths at the Saturday Market, and each item is hand crafted by the person that is selling the item.

The Oregon Zoo Presents FROGS!

FROGS!, is an exhibit that will be at the Oregon Zoo from September through December. It is a traveling exhibit. It explores the world of frogs, including looking at seven different frog species. There is a Tadpole Story Time, as well, and many different educational activities that visitors can take part in.

Wolf to Woof: The Story of Dogs

Dogs are truly special creatures, and this event explores the world of dogs. Wolf to Woof happens at the World Forestry Center Discovery Museum from September through January. It will look at how dogs evolved, their significance in culture and in history, how search and rescue dogs find people, and even how the dog’s sense of smell works. The exhibit will look also at how dogs communicate with one another, and how they have become to be some of the most prized domesticated animals in the world, all over the world.
