Celebrating Again

Alex has one set of grandparents in Portland and the other set in Reno. Since we live in Portland, we spend most of our holidays here. However, there are some holidays that both sets of grandparents want to be included in, and we do our best to accommodate. As a result, sometimes we have multiple celebrations, one in Portland and one in Reno. Usually one celebration falls on the actual holiday, and the other party is whenever it is convenient. I’m pretty sure Alex doesn’t mind since it means he gets to have two parties for Christmas, his birthday, and any other holidays we see fit to celebrate with both sets of grandparents.
Laurelhurst Park

April 15, 2012
Sunday was a beautiful day, far too nice to spend the whole day pent up inside. As a result, we spent quite a bit of time outside doing various things and Alex got to ride his trike and play ball with the neighbor kids. As if that were not enough, we decided it was about time we bring Alex to the park.
Super Kids Resale 2012

April 14, 2012
Between Alex and me, we keep coming up with more things that we would like to have. We can not afford to buy everything we want nor do we have the space, but that does not stop accumulating stuff. Resale events therefore are wonderful for two reasons. They give you a place to find new (to you) stuff at reasonable prices, and they give you a place to sell the stuff that is cluttering your garage. Alas, I am not quite ready to part with the contents of my garage yet as I think Alex may have a sibling in the next few years who will need it, but we are certainly game for going shopping!
Parenting while Sick

Last week I traveled with Alex to visit my family. Not sure if it was the stress of travel or just bad luck, but somewhere along the line I managed to pick up a bug and was sick for the entire trip. I still feel pretty awful.

Hunger Games and other Books

I spent all weekend at the movie theater this weekend listening to excited kids and adults talk about the Hunger Games. I enjoy working with film, so I work at a local movie theater one or two days a week. It also gives me a much needed break from Alex. As much as I love the kid, being home with him all week, I really do need an occasional break.
Audiences were particularly passionate about Hunger Games. They have been talking about the movie nonstop since we first put up a poster and when we actually got the film, there was so much excitement! The audience ranged in age from pre-teens on up and everyone seemed to really enjoy the film.
Broken Toys and Missing Parts

My baby monitor stopped charging this week. I called Graco to get a new charger and they informed me that the model I had was no longer made and they no longer sell parts for it. My charger was made in 2008, so was therefor four years old after all.
2008, really! Time flies, but I guess that makes sense. I got the charger as a baby shower gift in 2009 and it had probably been in the store for a while before that. But it still does not seem unreasonable to be able to get parts for it. After all, I still have the baby, well kid, right?
Go-Karting by the Beach

March 19, 2012
When we purchased our balls to play miniature golf on Saturday, the cashier recommended we take Alex to ride on a go-kart. It seemed like a good idea, after all Long Beach Go-Karts was located right down the street from our hotel.
Alex was very excited about the prospect of driving a go-kart. Alas kids had to be at least six years old to drive, so his dad, Brian, had to drive the go-kart for them. That’s probably for the best, but I do wish I could find a place that has the cars for little kids like they sell at Toy’s R Us. They look like so much fun!
Miniature Golf in Long Beach

March 17, 2012
Alex loves balls and as a result he has all sorts. Among his collection is a small golf bag with clubs, balls, and accessories that we picked up at Ross. It is pretty cute seeing him carry it around and play with it. I am looking forward to setting the golf set up for him outside when the weather gets warmer and the grass has been mowed.
Flying Kites at Long Beach

March 17, 2012
We spent the weekend in Long Beach, Washington, and our hotel was located about a block from the World Kite Museum. We have not visited the museum before, so Saturday, after Alex took a nap, we walked over to see the kites.
The Museum was featuring a show on birds, so there were many lovely avian kites on display. Some of these kites were very realistic. They reminded me of the story my sister told about when her husband was flying his eagle kite and a car came driving over. A couple people got out and came running over thinking the kite was a real eagle. Once you get these birds in the sky, it can be hard to tell the difference.
