The Portland Art Museum is a wonderful place to engage children with the arts. Admission is free for children age 17 and under, and the Museum offers tours, demonstrations, performances, story times, and hands-on activities designed for children and their families. This is a great way to teach a young mind to appreciate art and inspire creativity.
Every Sunday the Museum is open, visitors of all ages can explore their creative sides, engage their imaginations, and discover together during themed activities that highlight the Museum’s collections and special exhibitions. Sundays for Families’ activities include a family tour at 12:30 p.m., art-making activities from 1 to 3 p.m., and Story Time from 2:30 to 3 p.m.
Four times a year, the Museum offers a day of free admission for all visitors. The free admission days coincide with Museum Family Days, fun afternoons dedicated to performances, art making, and hands-on activities throughout the galleries through which families can explore special exhibitions on view at the Museum.
