Things to do in Tigard
Tigard is full of history, which makes it a prime place to find things to do. Remember playing the Oregon Trail game in school? That was by far the best game invented. Ever. The actual Oregon Trail ran just North of Tigard, which means that the trail had a huge influence on the population and settlement of Tigard.
In the Oregon Trail game, there were a few key things, which needed to happen in order to complete the game. Certain historical places had to be visited, treasures had to be found and traded, and tasks had to be completed as teams, like fording a river or hunting. The things to do in Tigard are no different, there are historical places to visit, treasures to find and great places to hang out with friends during fun activities.
Historical Places
If you have not already, try being a tourist in your own town and take a tour of the John Tigard House. The house was constructed in 1880 and was saved from demolition in 1970 and is actually registered on the National Historic Registry. Pittock Mansion is another historical landmark only minutes from Tigard; also slated to be demolished, its ornate designs and magnificent detail will surely impress every 20th century architecture fan.
Treasure Hunting and Trading
Tigard offers a wealth of treasure hunting experiences. Treasure hunting buffs know the movie National Treasure was about clues and coordinates leading the main actors to various places they have never been. The point was to allow them to take in new, possibly even historical sites they might have never seen otherwise and, of course, to find treasure.
The characters were operating as their own search engine deciphering clues and following coordinates to hidden locations. Geocaching is exactly that; a quasi-game where people hide different things in random locations and provide clues and coordinates for others to go find. Believe it or not, but there are about 700 geocaches within a 50-mile radius of Tigard. If you want a fun outdoor adventure that will take you to new places, check out geocaching.
Group Activities
While fording rivers and hunting buffalo are not usually the most common sources for fun these days, there is always the option to go to a local restaurant or bar and listen to a live band with some friends. There are also plenty of parks in the Tigard area, which, in the summer months means pick-up games of football, soccer, ultimate Frisbee, and other outdoor sports that are sure to entertain even the largest groups of friends.
Tigard is full of fun things to do; all it takes is an open mind and a little creativity to draw out the same skills used during the time of the early settlers. Who would have thought you could actually learn something from playing a video game in school?
