Multnomah County Fair at Oaks Park

Over Memorial Day weekend, Oaks Park held the 103rd annual Multnomah County Fair. Offering free parking, free admission and a free petting zoo made the fair too good a deal to pass up on, so we headed out to the fair Monday afternoon to see what was there.
The Fair is a popular event and quite a few families had the same idea we did, but since we went at the end of the weekend, things were winding down a bit, and there was parking readily available. We enjoyed walking through the colorful amusement rides and fair games and watching the smiling faces on the many participants. Worth noting though, like a normal day at Oaks Park, while gate entry is free, the rides and games are not. Since we did not go on any rides, I do not know how the pricing compared to Oaks Park’s normal rates, but I suspect it was similar.
There were several vendors at the fair, and we enjoyed perusing their booths. A balloon artist made creations for children. A chainsaw sculpture area had two artists creating sculptures from wood with chainsaws. There was a petting zoo where we visited with the rabbits, goats, donkey, calf and other critters included. There were also pony rides for a nominal fee, for children less than 75 pounds, and the ponies were adorable. The Pavilion was full of floral displays, art, vegetables and other prizewinners that were interesting to see.
Throughout the weekend, there were several different events at the fair. The fair is dog friendly (though we left ours home), and included a dog dress-up contest and dog agility course on Saturday. Because the fair is a busy event, only very well behaved dogs should attend.
The Mulnomah Fair is over for this year, but after 103 years, it is sure to be back next year and is well worth attending with the family. Oaks Park remains open throughout the year and is always a fun place to take children.
Inflatable Kingdom is also a great place to bring kids. Come to one of our Open Play sessions and check us out!
