Book Babies

Gregory Heights Library
October 29, 2009, 11:15-11:45
Alex is six weeks old now, so I decided I’d bring him to the Book Babies reading group at my local library branch, Gregory Heights. After all, the library is only a few minutes drive away, so if it proved too much for us, I could always take Alex home. He’s pretty portable.
Alex was the youngest baby at the library. In fact, the instructor told me that he was the youngest she has had in her reading group yet. Most of the other babies at the group today were crawling or walking. The reading group is popular, and many of the babies and their moms are regulars to the group.
The instructor read books to the babies in an engaging matter, being sure to walk around the room and show all of the babies each picture. In between books, she entertained the little ones with rattles, toys, songs, bubbles and movement activities. The babies really enjoyed themselves. Even Alex was on the edge of his seat. Everyone was amazed he was able to stay awake.
Book Babies is an entertaining activity for babies and their parents. Reading groups are a fun way for children to get an early start to their education. The social benefits for babies and their parents can’t be ignored either. Babies get to meet and play with other babies while parents get to meet other parents.
Book Babies is offered at Gregory Heights every Thursday from 11:15 to 11:45 am. Book Babies is also offered at other Multnomah County Library branches throughout the week. Additional story times are offered at the library for children of all ages.
