What to do With Kids on a Saturday Afternoon
Things to do with your kids on a Saturday afternoon in and around Portland, OR.
So it’s your turn to take the kids on a Saturday afternoon. You are strapped for ideas. You live in Portland and it’s raining outside, thus eliminating any option of playing outdoors. You’ve also eliminated the option of playing at your house because
A.) you don’t want to deal with the mess
and
B.) because you truly want to give your kids a great afternoon and playing at home isn’t anything out of the ordinary.
Indoor Play Park at the East Portland Community Center

March 23, 2011
Alex has been jumping off the walls lately. When the weather is nice, sometimes I bring him to the park near our house, and he plays on the swings and slide. When things are wet and cold, however, indoor options, like Inflatable Kingdom’s Open Play, are preferable.
The East Portland Community Center offers an Indoor Play Park for kids age 5 and under from 10 am until noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I have been meaning to take Alex for quite some time. Today as I was trying to get my work done, he was tearing around the house yelling “ball” and throwing his inflatable balls around. Looking at the kid go, I decided there was no time like the present, and we packed up the diaper bag and headed out the door.
Seaside Aquarium

February 12, 2011
One of the great things about living in Portland is that the beach is just a short drive away. Last weekend, my husband, his parents, Alex, and I spent the weekend at the beach in Seaside. We were fortunate enough to have pretty nice weather on Friday and Sunday, however, Saturday proved to be windy, rainy, and cold.
Seaside is a great beach to visit in cold weather because there are plenty of shops and attractions to provide entertainment when it is too cold to play on the beach. We decided to visit the Seaside Aquarium on this Saturday, which proved to be a popular choice.
Antique Powerland

September 26, 2010
When my parents came to Portland to visit this weekend, I suggested we go to Antique Powerland. My dad loves tractors and old farm equipment. He has tractors from the 40s and 50s and various other pieces of farm equipment from the 50s and 60s including a road grader and a crane. He could practically have a museum himself with all the old equipment he has, and he keeps it all running and in regular use. Whenever we have kids (and adults) visit my parents ranch, the tractors are some of the star attractions.

One day during our regular open play program we brought out some arts and crafts supplies for the kids to do some coloring sheets. A little boy reached into the arts and crafts bin, pulled out some scissors, construction paper, and a marker.

Flying with Kids
Taking children to Portland International Airport

I just returned home from Alex’s second trip to Reno to see his grandparents. He is five months old and has already been on an airplane four times. With family eager to see him regularly in Reno, I am certain that he will travel there a lot more.
Winter at the Zoo
A Visit to the Oregon Zoo, January 29, 2010

The zoo is a magical place to visit. Where else can you see so many different and wonderful animals in such a short time? I have yet to meet a child who does not love the zoo, and adults are also entertained by watching the animals in their habitats. Friday afternoon my husband, my four-month-old son, and I met up with my cousin and her one-year-old daughter, and we all went to the Oregon Zoo. This would be my son Alex’s first visit to the zoo.
