Having a birthday party? Whether it is for a first birthday or a hundredth birthday, you are going to want to insure that you preserve the memories.

Birthday parties can be very hectic for those holding the events, so really think about it before you decide to take all the pictures yourself. While the staff at Inflatable Kingdom does most of the work when you have a birthday party at our facility, you will probably still want to be involved in the party. Taking photos may interfere with your fun during the event. If you have the budget, consider getting a professional photographer. If money is tight, ask a friend or relative to take the pictures.

If you do decide to take the pictures yourself, be sure to have someone else take some photos of you during the party as well. Encourage other party goers to bring their cameras too, as when you are looking back, you will enjoy seeing the event through new eyes. You never know which pictures will turn out to be your favorites.

Digital cameras have made it easier than ever to take lots of photos of all life’s important events. Since you can take as many photos as you want and delete them later if you don’t like them, take LOTS of pictures. If you have a video camera, take some video of part or all of the party too. Consider setting up a tripod to use for the video camera so you don’t have to hold it the whole time. Tripods can also be useful for taking photos of yourself using the timer.

After the party is over, don’t wait to long to look at your photos. Sort through them right away and share copies with friends or relatives who will enjoy having them through web-sites like Facebook, email, or CDs in the mail. Consider printing your favorites for a birthday album. You can also include a copy of the invitation in your album and a CD with all of the photo and video files. Some photo albums even include a sleeve for a CD, but if the album you purchase does not, you can always tape a paper CD sleeve in the back. You’ll enjoy looking back at these photos in this album for years to come!

Alex turned one last week. It is amazing how fast time flies! This is my first baby, and I wanted his birthday to be something special. There are a lot of options when it comes to planning a first birthday party for kids. Unfortunately having a one year old does not leave a lot of time for party planning.

Things are a bit complicated for us because my family lives in Reno while my husband’s family is here in Portland. Rather than expect my family to come to us, we decided to have a party in Portland and another in Reno. To top things off, our Portland party was not going to be on his actual birthday, so he had a third, small party on his birthday at our house on his birthday.

We kept the small party on Alex’s birthday simple and easy. Brian and I took Alex to Toys R Us to pick his own gift. Course, at one year old, some of the items he chooses get vetoed. We bought him a big ball, a farm animal magnet set for the fridge, and a book. We had spaghetti for dinner since he loves noodles, and it was easy to prepare. I made chocolate cake, and I gave him his own slice. He wore half of it, but boy was he happy. I had to sponge him off and change his clothes after he finished eating it (my clothes too). The smiles on his face were well worth the mess! We opened gifts (he has not quite figured out the wrapping paper yet, but by Christmas I’m sure he’ll have it down), then he played while we watched him and videotaped him. Alex has just learned how to walk, and while he still falls a lot, he is getting better every day.

The next party will be taking place at Inflatable Kingdom. I decided that I just don’t have time or energy to clean the house well enough to have a big party at home. Inflatable Kingdom’s birthday party packages include pretty much everything but the cake, so there is not much work left for busy parents.

Since this is Alex’s first birthday, and I am his doting mom, I have been doing some extra stuff. I made my own invitations with photos of Alex on him so all the invitees will have pictures of the birthday boy. I designed and printed the cards out at home, but for anyone who is less computer savvy than me or just doesn’t have the time, you can order custom birthday cards with your photo on them at most stores that process photos.

I went to the dollar store and got party decorations, wrapping paper, gift bags, and toys to put in the bags for the kids that are going to the party. Alex’s gifts are purchased and wrapped. I’ll be making cake the day before, and I have decided we will have juice and water to drink. Alex doesn’t get to drink soda, and none of us need the corn syrup.

The third party presented a special challenge because I don’t live in Reno. Luckily my grandmother came to the rescue and volunteered her house. Alex’s party is going to be held in conjunction with a celebration of all of the October birthdays in our extended family.

I am looking forward to sharing photos and stories after the party is complete. First birthday parties present a particular challenge since parents of a one year old want the party to be extra special, but don’t have a lot of spare time to put things together. A place like Inflatable Kingdom makes kid’s party planning easy.
